A Japanese woman in her 50s has been referred to prosecutors for allegedly kissing BTS member Jin without consent during a fan event.
The Seoul Songpa Police Station announced on May 8th that the woman, identified only as “A,” has been sent to the prosecution on charges of indecent assault in a public place under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes. Police said she voluntarily appeared for questioning after recently entering South Korea.
The incident occurred during a BTS fan event in June last year. The woman was among 1,000 fans who participated in a hug event with Jin, during which she suddenly kissed him on the cheek.
The incident quickly sparked controversy online, with calls for legal action. A public petition demanding punishment was submitted to the Korean government’s civil complaint portal the day after the event.
During their investigation, police discovered a blog post written in Japanese describing the moment in graphic detail: “My lips touched his neck. His skin was so soft.” Authorities requested international cooperation through Interpol to identify the author and confirmed the woman as the suspect after a seven-month investigation.
Although police initially summoned her for questioning, they suspended the investigation in March due to delays and her prolonged stay overseas.
Under Korean police regulations, investigations may be temporarily suspended if a suspect remains abroad for more than two months and cannot be questioned. The case can be resumed once the obstacle is resolved.
Meanwhile, another woman, referred to as “B,” who is also accused of forcibly kissing Jin, remains unaccounted for. The investigation into her case is still on hold.
