A surprise kiss between Seo Kang Jun and Jin Ki Joo has given MBC’s Undercover High School a significant ratings boost.
The fourth episode of the MBC Friday-Saturday drama, which aired on March 1st, followed the characters tracking down the truth behind the second ghost story circulating at their school.
According to Nielsen Korea, the episode recorded 8.3% nationwide household viewership, setting a new personal best for the series. The scene where Su A (Jin Ki Joo) slipped on a massage ball in the rooftop room and accidentally kissed Hae Sung (Seo Kang Jun) particularly captured viewers’ attention, with ratings momentarily soaring to 10.3%.
Investigating the secret behind the school’s second ghost story, the characters used matching grandfather clocks on the first floor and in the student council room as clues. Hae Sung decided to become a student council member to gain access to the council room and devised a plan with Team 4 to collect 100 names for his nomination list.
They lured students by offering free sandwiches in exchange for signatures, with Park Mi Jeong (Yoon Gai) and Go Young Hoon (Jo Bok Rae) enthusiastically dancing to attract attention. Though initially embarrassed, Hae Sung was eventually dragged onto the stage by team leader Ahn Seok Ho (Jeon Bae Soo), creating a humorous moment as he joined them in dancing.
The episode’s closing moments delivered comedy gold with Team 4’s kissing incident. Su A slipped on a massage ball and fell, causing Hae Sung, who was facing her, to fall as well, resulting in an accidental kiss. Adding to the chaos, Mi Jeong, hiding in the closet, kissed Young Hoon to prevent him from sneezing, causing him to faint and fall out of the closet. A confused Su A asked Hae Sung, “Can someone please explain what’s going on right now?” prompting laughter from viewers.
Audience reactions flooded in with comments like, “Wow, Seo Kang Jun is really good at action scenes,” “Su A’s crushing on her student, LOL,” “I just love this crazy drama,” “This is totally my style,” “That double kiss ending had me bursting out,” and “I was cracking up the entire time.”
Undercover High School airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 PM KST.
