BLACKPINK’s Rosé has made a historic exit from the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA), marking only the second time a major Korean artist has left the organization.

According to KOMCA on February 20th, Rosé submitted her trust termination application on October 31st, 2024, with the contract officially ending on January 31st, 2025, following a three-month grace period.

This landmark decision makes Rosé the first artist to leave KOMCA since Seo Taiji’s groundbreaking departure on April 4th, 2003, when he became the first Korean singer to terminate his trust relationship with the organization.

Sources indicate Rosé’s decision stems from commission considerations, following her exclusive contract signing with Atlantic Records, under Warner Music Group, in September last year. With her increasing focus on the U.S. market, maintaining separate copyright management in both Korea and the United States became redundant. Moving forward, all of Rosé’s copyrights will be managed by her U.S. publisher.

In the meantime, the BLACKPINK vocalist has been making waves globally, particularly with her collaboration “APT.” featuring Bruno Mars. The music video for “APT.” recently surpassed 1 billion views on YouTube, while her debut album rosie made history by entering Billboard 200 at No. 3, setting a new record for K-pop female artists.

As part of BLACKPINK, Rosé is set to embark on a world tour beginning July 5th at Goyang Sports Complex Main Stadium. The tour will span 10 major cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, New York, Paris, Milan, Barcelona, London, and Tokyo.
