Kim Sae Ron’s final social media post before her passing was a tribute to Moonbin.

Kim shared a post on her Instagram Story in memory of Moonbin on his birthday on January 26th. She uploaded a photo of them together with the caption “HBD♥,” taken during the filming of the 2015 web drama To Be Continued. The two had previously been under the same agency, Fantagio. At the time, she also changed her profile picture to an image of dandelion seeds—the same image Moonbin had used in his final Instagram post before his passing. As Instagram Stories disappear after 24 hours, the post is no longer visible.

Her last permanent Instagram post was a selfie uploaded on January 26th, accompanied by a heart emoji. The comment section was disabled. This post came ten days after she had shared a photo resembling a wedding photoshoot on February 8th, captioned “Marry.” The photo was deleted within minutes, but it quickly spread through online communities, sparking marriage rumors. Kim later clarified to a media outlet that the rumors were untrue, explaining, “It was just a photo taken with friends.” As for why she deleted the post, she stated, “It’s difficult to explain. I ask for your understanding.”

On February 16th, Kim Sae Ron was found dead at her home in Seoul. A friend, who had visited her residence around 5PM, discovered her and called the police. Authorities reported that there were no signs of forced entry or any indications of foul play, adding that “the cause of death is under investigation.”

Kim had previously been involved in a DUI incident on May 18, 2022, when she crashed into a transformer near the Cheongdam area of Seoul. She refused a breathalyzer test but agreed to a blood test at a nearby hospital. The National Forensic Service later confirmed her blood alcohol level was 0.227%, far exceeding the license revocation threshold of 0.08%. In April of the following year, she was fined 20 million KRW. Following the incident, most of her scenes were removed from the Netflix series Bloodhounds, which was released in June 2023.

She attempted to return to the entertainment industry in April last year with the play Dongchimi, but withdrew amid public backlash. In November, it was reported that she had been cast in the film Guitar Man. The movie was scheduled for release in the first half of this year but has now become her final work.
