Gong Yoo and Seo Hyun Jin opened up about their kiss scene in Netflix’s The Trunk during a behind-the-scenes discussion, bringing plenty of laughs as they reflected on their characters’ chemistry and memorable moments.
When asked about a scene where No In Ji (Seo Hyun Jin) calls Han Jeong Won (Gong Yoo) “honey,” Gong Yoo shared, “That was just my natural reaction.” Seo playfully asked, “Was it because it felt absurd?” Gong Yoo laughed and admitted, “Yeah, it was absurd—but that’s how good the acting was.” He added, “Even our first meeting scene at the police station had the director laughing. He really enjoyed it.”
The conversation turned to their tango scene, where No In Ji leads Jeong Won. Reflecting on her preparation, Seo shared, “I actually borrowed lines from my tango teacher.” Gong Yoo teased about Jeong Won’s spontaneous kiss, saying, “I think Jeong Won found her adorable and beautiful—that’s why he just went for it.”
The surprise kiss in the tango scene had both actors giggling in embarrassment. Gong Yoo joked, “I just went, didn’t I?” before fanning himself and adding, “Wow, it’s hot in here.” Seo burst into laughter, quipping, “That was such an old-man move. Mister!”
The playful banter continued as both actors reflected on the emotional weight of the scene. “That moment was wonderful, and it was a beautiful scene in the drama,” Gong Yoo said. “(In Ji and Jeong Won) don’t have lots of happy or laughing scenes, so moments like this come as bittersweet to me.” Seo agreed, to which Gong Yoo responded with a compliment: “She really understands the story.”
The Trunk is now streaming on Netflix.
