Ji Chang Wook went candid in a recent interview for Disney Plus’s Gangnam B-Side.
Gangnam B-Side explores the shadowy underbelly of a vibrant city. Ji Chang Wook plays Yoon Gil Ho, a man navigating a world riddled with desire and conflict, balancing moments of loneliness with raw survival. Following his standout performance in The Worst of Evil, Ji once again delivers compelling action sequences in the series.
However, Ji admitted his hesitance toward action roles. “I’ve had those thoughts, you know—like, ‘I really don’t want to do this.’ Honestly, I think about it every time,” he said. “I enjoy other genres more. It’s not like I love action. It just feels like every project I do happens to include it.”
However, the actor continued, “But anyhoo, whether I like it or not, I have to get it done and make it work. Fortunately, people seem to find my action scenes impressive, and I’ve received a lot of praise for them. But honestly, I’m not a huge fan of all the action sequences.” He added with a laugh, “It wasn’t so bad this time, but during ‘The Worst of Evil,’ there was a moment when I couldn’t finish a sequence. I ran out of breath and just plopped down. That’s when I realized, ‘This is because of my age.’ I used to be able to do this 100 times without an issue, but now I can’t.”
When asked if he’d like to do more romantic comedy, Ji didn’t hesitate. “I’d love to. I really want to do a rom-com. I enjoy them more than action.” He then jokingly added, “But if someone pays me, I’ll do it. If there’s a good script, why not? Even though I’m not a big fan of action, if it’s the right role and story, I’d do it. But rom-coms—I love them so much. I really want to do one.”
