Park Sang Young, author of the bestselling novel Love in the Big City and screenwriter for its drama adaptation, voiced frustration over recent challenges leading up to the show’s release, citing its LGBTQ+ themes as the reason for the pushback.
“We were marked by a certain group, and the teaser was made private,” Park revealed. “It’s only nine days until the premiere, and I haven’t slept all night thinking about how absurd it is that we can’t even promote it.” Despite the setback, Park reassured fans, saying, “No matter what, the show will be released on October 21st.”
According to the production team, the teaser was temporarily removed not due to external protests as the writer claimed, but to align with the show’s restricted rating. “Since the full series received a mature audience rating, the teaser also needed to go through re-evaluation,” they said.
Still, they confirmed that protests had indeed occurred. “We received complaints from several groups, and Park Sang Young’s statement wasn’t totally inaccurate,” a representative told Newsen.
작가 생활 8년 하면서 이런 일 익숙해졌다고 생각했는데 pic.twitter.com/yLTuhc2kTc

Love in the Big City follows writer Go Young, played by Nam Yoon Su, as he explores life and love through various relationships. With four different directors—Hur Jin Ho, Hong Ji Yeong, Son Tae Gyum, and Kim Se In—helming each episode, the series aims to capture the essence of youth and romance.
The Korea Media Rating Board explained that the mature rating was due to “scenes involving drinking in nightclubs, explicit language like ‘we’re f*cked,’ intimate encounters, topics such as unplanned pregnancies and abortion, and references to HIV.” The board added that the series “contains drug elements and sexual content portrayed realistically, with repeated use of profanity, making it inappropriate for younger viewers.”
The creators, however, remain firm about the premiere date. “The show will drop as scheduled on October 21st,” they confirmed.
