Hwasa recently opened up about the no-bra controversy and her daing performances during an appearance on the YouTube show “Don’t Forget Your Breakfast 2.”

When asked which controversy surprised her the most, she replied, “The no-bra issue, for sure. Personally, when I eat with a bra, I get an upset stomach. I was like that since I was young, so I thought, ‘How long do I have to keep wearing this?’ That’s why I stopped wearing one in casual settings. I didn’t know it would be such a big deal back then,” she explained.

Hwasa also noted how perceptions have evolved: “But now, people are much more open-minded about it.” Host Jang Sung Kyu chimed in, saying, “You really normalized the no-bra trend,” to which Hwasa laughed, “If that’s true, I’d be honored. I guess I just don’t like wearing things.”

The singer also touched on the criticism she’s received throughout her career. “Since my debut, controversies have followed me like fate. Early on, it was really rough. People even signed petitions for me to leave the group. They said I wasn’t fit to be a female idol. Back then, I didn’t fit the ideal look—thin, pale, and polished. But I’ve always had thicker thighs, and acted a bit differently, even the way I looked at the camera was weird,” she joked.

“But if you keep getting poked like that, eventually, you’ll bleed,” the singer admitted, acknowledging the pain behind the public scrutiny.

She also addressed the backlash surrounding her provocative stage performances. “I guess it made some people uncomfortable. I should reflect on that. It wasn’t intentional, though. Sometimes, when I’m performing, I get so in the zone that I don’t fully remember what happened,” she said. “After that particular performance, I couldn’t sleep. I was thrilled. The students were having the time of their lives, and it reminded me, ‘This is why I perform.’ People have told me I’ve always been ‘too much,’ even when I was a kid. But this made me more aware of things I need to be mindful of.”
