On the 21st, fashion magazine W Korea’s YouTube channel released a delightful interview featuring Serendipity’s Embrace stars Kim So Hyun and Chae Jong Hyeop, showcasing their playful and affectionate dynamic.
Chae Jong Hyeop shared his first impression of Kim So Hyun, saying, “When I first met her, she was wearing a hat and looked like a real celebrity. But I soon found out she is a bright and positive person who smiles a lot.”
When asked to draw each other’s characters, Chae Jong Hyeop sketched a heart with an angry face and explained, “The character Hong Joo (Kim So Hyun) is very lovely and cute. But she gets really angry with Hoo Young (Chae Jong Hyeop). From Hoo Young’s perspective, she nags a lot and seems quite forceful.”
Kim So Hyun, who drew a bowl of rice, explained, “The reason Hong Joo is so angry is that Hoo Young is a ‘bapmat’ (a Korean term for someone difficult or unlikable). Even though Hong Joo tries hard, Hoo Young seems unresponsive and dismissive, which frustrates her.”
When asked how they addressed each other on set, Chae Jong Hyeop revealed, “Hong Gong?” making Kim So Hyun laugh. She clarified, “Actually, Hong Gong was something oppa (Chae Jong Hyeop) started on his own. I never told him to call me that.” Chae Jong Hyeop added, “During filming, we called her Hong Joo or Princess Hong Joo, and then it became Hong Gong. I once called her that from a distance, and she answered and turned to see me. Remember that at the beach?” he asked.
Kim So Hyun replied, “Sang Pil (Lee Won Jung) started it. He called Hye Ji (Kim Da Som) ‘queen’ and ‘princess,’ so Jong Hyeop started calling me ‘Hong Gong.’ So, I gave him the nickname ‘Hoo Wang,’ meaning ‘Prince Hoo Young.'”
Meanwhile, the new tvN drama Serendipity’s Embrace premieres today, August 22nd, at 8:40 PM KST.
