The entertainment industry continues to pay their respects following the passing of actor Lee Sun Kyun on the 27th.
Late into the night, mourners gathered at the wake held in the Seoul National University Hospital Funeral Hall in Seoul. The family restricted media access, keeping everything private. His wife, actress Jeon Hye Jin, is at the scene, receiving the visitors.
Colleagues from Lee Sun Kyun’s last film, The Land of Happiness, including Yoo Jae Myung and Jo Jung Suk, were present. Jo Jung Suk was seen leaving the funeral hall, tears streaming down his face.
Cho Jin Woong, who worked with the actor in the film A Hard Day, rushed to the wake, visibly distraught and needing support to enter the hall. He had recently replaced the late actor in the drama No Way Out.
Other actors, including Sol Kyung Gu, Lee Sung Min, Ha Jung Woo, Jung Woo Sung, Lee Jung Jae, Jeon Do Yeon, Ryu Jun Yeol, Yim Si Wan, Kim Nam Gil, Yoo Yeon Seok, Moon Geun Young, and Bae Sung Woo, also paid their respects.
Directors and broadcasting industry figures also visited. Lee Won Seok, director of Killing Romance, has been staying at the service since around 5 PM. Other directors, including Bong Joon Ho (Parasite), Byun Young Joo (Helpless), Byun Sung Hyun (The Kingmaker), Lee Chang Dong, and BA Entertainment’s Jang Won Seok, were among the mourners.
Singer BoA posted a photo with Lee, expressing her grief: “Our captain, who was the biggest cheerleader and mood maker, I miss you… See you soon was what you always said. Now, I’ll come see you soon.”
Actor Park Ho San, who co-starred in My Mister with Lee as his eldest brother, shared his disbelief and sorrow: “It couldn’t believe it, and I don’t want to believe it, but after receiving the wake invitation… To me, you were more Dong Hoon than Sun Kyun. My brother, Dong Hoon.”
Choi Siwon of Super Junior and Han Sun Hwa also paid tribute. Choi posted the My Mister poster along with the caption, “My heart is heavy. Deepest condolences to the family.” Han shared a photo of a white chrysanthemum against a black background in remembrance.
Lee Yeon Hee posted a photo of chrysanthemum flowers on her social media and wrote, “My heart is heavy. I wanted to express my gratitude to the person who was both my colleague and senior, but now I can’t. I won’t forget the moments we shared together.”
Lee Sun Kyun had been under police investigation since October for alleged drug use. He maintained that he mistook the drugs provided by nightclub manager A for sleeping pills, with no intent to consume narcotics. The day before his death, his attorney submitted a request for a lie detector test. With his passing, the case is expected to be closed without any further public action.
