BLACKPINK’s Jisoo has been adorned with the title “Global Superstar” by ELLE Singapore, gracing the cover with radiant charm. The fashion magazine emphasized, “For such a significant milestone as our 30th anniversary, there could be no global star more fitting than Jisoo.”
Reflecting on the evolution since BLACKPINK’s debut seven years ago, Jisoo mused, “The thrill of performing on stage was overwhelming. We practiced tirelessly for our first performance, and after years of rehearsing other artists’ songs, I yearned for my own shows. Once I started performing my own part, the sense of accomplishment was immense.”
“Now, seven years into our journey, the gravity and responsibility I feel during performances are palpable. As the group has matured, so have the audience’s expectations, and we feel compelled to meet them,” she added.
Reflecting on their second world tour, Jisoo shared, “I was overjoyed to meet fans after such a long time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.” She went on to reveal, “The bond within BLACKPINK members has also grown stronger. Usually, when we’re in Korea, everyone is so busy with their schedules. But being abroad together naturally meant spending a lot of time as a group, and those are the happiest memories for us.”
Speaking on the release of her debut single album ME, Jisoo expressed, “I started preparing for solo performances mid-2022 to show it during the tour and finally released it early this year.” She added, “From choreography to music video storytelling, I diligently pondered each decision. I knew my fans would support me no matter what, so I didn’t have to worry too much.”
Jisoo, who juggles acting with singing, commented, “Performing as a singer, I embody my persona, but acting offers the liberation of inhabiting different characters. I gravitate towards roles that are elusive in everyday life. The more a genre strays from my image, the more I’m drawn to the challenge.”
In response to how BLACKPINK hopes to change the world’s view of K-pop and its industry, Jisoo remarked, “The world has changed considerably, and it’s not just because of BLACKPINK. I’ve felt the elevated status of K-content during this tour.” She then noted the different reactions she saw during their second tour. “Many (of the local residents) told us that BLACKPINK has made their lives easier abroad, which inspires me to work even harder,” she said, showcasing the sense of responsibility that comes with being a front-runner in K-pop.
Jisoo sums up 2023 as an incredibly fulfilling year, “Between debuting solo, touring, photoshoots, preparing for a new drama, meeting many people, and attending numerous meetings… I simply wish to live a healthy and happy life.”
