The upcoming JTBC drama Behind Your Touch has been embroiled in controversy over the “sexual harassment” scenes before its start. The issue arose due to a scene in the trailer featuring Han Ji Min touching the male actors’ butts. In response, the Behind Your Touch team stated, “Context is crucial,” explaining away the controversy.
On the 10th, Behind Your Touch held its online press conference. Director Kim Seok Yoon and actors Han Ji Min, Lee Min Ki, and EXO’s Suho were in attendance.
Behind Your Touch is a comic detective drama revolving around a diligent vet Bong Ye Bun (Han Ji Min) with the newfound psychometric ability to see the past of both humans and animals, and an elite detective Moon Jang Yeol (Lee Min Ki) who needs her power to return to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
Regarding the decision to have the character use her supernatural powers by touching buttocks, director Kim explained, “I wanted to differentiate this from other psychometric detective stories. And the easy access to see the past or use supernatural powers seemed too simple, so I added a hindrance to create various scenarios.”
However, some have criticized the “touching the butt” aspect, accusing it of being sexual harassment. Director Kim responded, “I heard concerns people voiced after seeing the edited footage, but I believe context is essential. Without the surrounding context, it may feel different, but there is no need to worry about that. I think everything will be cleared up once you watch the show.”
Meanwhile, Behind Your Touch will air its first episode on the 12th at 10:30 PM KST.
