The Boyz member New is facing backlash from K-pop fans after calling out a fan who posted about measuring the members’ hand strength at a fan meeting.

Recently a post about New has gone viral online. According to the post, a fan asked to measure The Boyz members’ hand strength with a hand dynamometer she personally brought to the recent fan meeting. She later posted the results of the members she remembered on her social media – Sangyeon (54.2), Sunwoo (53.2), Kevin (53), Juyeon (43.3), New (12).

However, when New found out, he wrote, “I didn’t want to do something like that, so I just put my hand on it, but she posted it anyway. I told her I didn’t want to do it…” Afterward, the fan quickly deleted her post, but other The Boyz fans have already started criticizing her. But seeing from her previous posts, you could tell that she was a big, devoted fan of the act, sparking a debate among K-pop fans about the boundaries between fans and their idols.

While some fans are showing support for New and agreeing with him that the fan was out of line to post the measurements online after he clearly expressed discomfort, others are taking the side of the fan, saying that New could have taken a more kind and respectful approach instead of shaming her publicly, especially since the fan had paid a lot of money to attend the event.

These are some of the comments: “She’d have spent thousands of dollars to go there. The least he could do is not shame his fans.” “He could’ve said that more nicely instead of sending other fans to attack her.” “Is measuring a hand grip such a big deal?” “I understand that he didn’t want to do it. But he didn’t have to single her out like that.”
