South Korean director Park Chan Wook‘s latest film Decision to Leave, received the highest score from global critics after its premiere at Cannes Film Festival earlier this week.

During the Festival, British film media outlet Screen Daily and French film media outlet Le Film Francais publish daily star ratings for screens in competition and notable screenings.

On the 23rd (local time), Park’s Decision to Leave obtained a score of 3.2 from Screen Daily and overtook the 12 other films that screened at the festival. It is also the only film whose score exceeded 3.

Following the film’s release, a reporter from Hollywood gave a rave review on Park, dubbing him as the “the global director who is at his peak.” Moreover, Hollywood news outlet Deadline complimented him by saying, “The movie shows why Park is the best director in the world.” The Guardian also welcomed back Park, giving his film five stars out of five in its review.

Meanwhile, the 75th Cannes Film Festival has passed the halfway point. A total of 12 films have been released under the competition section so far. The winner of the Palme d’Or will be announced after screening 9 more films scheduled to premiere. Broker, a Korean film directed by Hirokazu Kore-Eda, has been selected as one of the nominees in the category.

The final winner will be announced at the closing ceremony on the 28th.
