Squid Game has just bagged two big trophies at the 2022 Critics’ Choice Awards.
At the ceremony held in Los Angeles on Sunday the 13th, the smash-hit Netflix series nabbed the best foreign language series in television over the Mexican comedy Acapulco, the French comedy-drama Call My Agent!, the French thriller Lupin, the Spanish crime action series Money Heist and the American-Mexican crime drama Narcos: Mexico.
Many expected the win to come easily as the show has been a global phenomenon with record-breaking watch time.
Squid Game had been initially nominated for three awards this year: Best Drama Series, Best Foreign Language Series, and Best Actor in a Drama Series (Lee Jung Jae).

In addition to the show’s big win, Lee Jung Jae appeared genuinely shocked to win the best actor in a drama, over Sterling K. Brown in This Is Us, Mike Colter in Evil, Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong, who both appear in Succession. He gave a heartfelt speech in English after winning the trophy at the awards, saying, “Words cannot express how much this means to me. Thank you Netflix and thank you Squid Game”
