Director Hong Sang Soo won the grand jury prize at the Berlin International Film Festival.

On February 16th (local time), Hong Sang Soo received the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival for his 27th film, The Novelist’s Film.

During his acceptance speech, he said, “I did not expect to win this prize, so I’m very surprised. I feel like I should say something more, but I don’t know what to say. I will just keep on doing what I’ve been doing.”

The director then called his lover Kim Min Hee on stage. The actress, who played the lead role in The Novelist’s Film, said, “I could really feel that the audience loved the film. It was such an amazing experience and I will never forget it.”

The two stayed close during the photocall event and the press conference that followed the awarding ceremony. They also grabbed attention on the red carpet with their matching rings.

On a side note, Hong Sang Soo and Kim Min Hee have been dating for seven years since they met through Right Now, Wrong Then in 2015.
