Choi Woo Shik well expressed his character’s pure innocent emotions of first love as well as his growth as he matures in Our Beloved Summer. He shared his final thoughts following the conclusion of the drama through an online interview with MBN Star.
Q1. How do you feel now that ‘Our Beloved Summer’ has come to an end?
I loved every moment I spent on the set. It feels a little sad and strange now that I have to wrap up the five-month-long journey.
Q2. Your reunion with Kim Da Mi made headlines.
Because I don’t have much experience in the romance genre, there were times when I had to rely on my co-star, and the friendship that we built on our previous project helped us a lot. She helped me with many things and that allowed me to concentrate on my performances in the series.
Q3. Do you feel the hype of ‘Our Beloved Summer?’
Frankly, I knew it would do well after reading the script. I had faith in it. There were so many beautiful scenes that could draw people in and make them relive the moment that they experienced once in their life. I thought some of its emotional scenes would break many hearts of our viewers because they are so relatable.
Q4. How satisfied are you with the ending of the drama?
The two main characters have a bright future ahead of them. I’m jeoulous of the fact that they’re able to have their best friend as their lifelong companion. I love the ending. Before I became emotionally invested in the character, I thought there would be a sad ending. But the more that I became invested in the two protagonists, the more I wanted a happy ending for them. I think of the two whenever I have a tough day in my life and try to cheer up.
Q5. I saw that your best friend BTS’ V sang an OST for the drama.
First and foremost, I’d like to thank my friend Tae Hyung (V). In fact, Park Seo Jun and Tae Hyung have previously collaborated before, and it was my turn to collaborate with him this time. We do these little collaboration projects from time to time. I have helped Park Seo Jun with his works, and he helps me with mine. We’ve collaborated on many meaningful projects, and I’m grateful to be able to take part in such fulfilling, worthwhile projects.
Q6. How do you feel about starring in a romance genre especially after ‘Hogu’s Love?’
I once jokingly said, “I want to be the king of romantic comedies” in an interview once, but I think that’s still a challenging goal for me to achieve yet. Gong Yoo tells me I’m around the level of a “romantic comedy baby.” I want to build my career and one day be called the “king of romantic comedies.” I loved portraying a soft and feel-good character, and I’d like to star in more romance shows like this one.
Q7. If you were to meet Kim Da Mi again in a drama, what role would you like to meet her in?
We bickered a lot but eventually got together in Our Beloved Summer. I think it’d be fun to play a nonchalant married couple that goes through a breakup.
