Choi Hyun Wook is bringing the heat with Onitsuka Tiger.
The actor stars on the July cover of ELLE Korea’s digital project, D Edition, teaming up with the fashion brand for a bright and playful shoot. Blending Onitsuka Tiger’s free-spirited energy with his boyish charm, Choi also showed off a more mature side.
In the accompanying interview, Choi opened up about where he is in life and his career.
“These days, I’ve been taking time to reflect on acting and steady myself,” he said. “I feel like I’m slowly growing through that process.”
He also discussed his latest Netflix series Notes from the Last Row, saying one line from the script immediately stayed with him: “You can’t understand someone by looking at only one side of them.” Through his character Lee Kang, Choi said he gained a new perspective on how he views people.
He described Lee Kang as “someone who keeps his distance from the world to protect himself.”
“With every project, I get to step into someone else’s life. But this time, I found myself watching people through Lee Kang’s eyes,” he said. “It let me see the world from a perspective I’d never experienced before, and there was something really special and different about playing a character who observes the people around him.”

Choi also praised co-star Choi Min Sik, calling the experience of working with him “a great honor.” He explained, “I learned so much from him, not only about acting but also about life. I was grateful that he understood and embraced everything I brought to the role.”
Reflecting on his own youth, Choi said the emotion he feels most often these days is calm. He shared that he finds happiness in the accomplishment of checking off everything on his daily schedule and in the comfort of an ordinary routine.
Looking back, he said he would tell his teenage self to take his time, stay close to good people and trust that “many precious moments are still ahead.”
ELLE D Edition is the magazine’s digital project created for web and social media audiences.
