Asian Film Awards Academy (AFAA) announced the 15th Asian Film Awards (AFA) nominations.
The AFAA is an organization established in 2013 by three main Asian film festivals – Busan, Hong Kong, and Tokyo – to promote and develop Asian cinema. It highlights and develops the Asian film industry and culture through the annual Asian Film Awards.
A total of 36 films produced in 8 regions in Asia were selected for the 15th AFA nominations. Of those, 7 are Korean films: Deliver Us From Evil, Three Sisters, Voice of Silence, Space Sweepers, The Book of Fish, The Call, and Aloners.
Director Lee Joon Ik achieved the first feat. Lee put his name in 4 nominations – Best Film, Best Director, Best Costume Design, and Best Sound – with his movie The Book of Fish. He’ll be competing with One Second, The Disciple, Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy, and Wife of a Spy.
Two Korean actors were also named Best Actor and Best Actress nominees. Yoo Ah In, who showed impressive performance without a single line in Voice of Silence, received the Best Actor nomination. Best Actress nomination went to Jeon Jong Seo for showing overwhelming presence with her “demented” acting in The Call.
In addition, Deliver Us From Evil actor Park Jung Min and Three Sisters actress Jang Yoon Ju won Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress nominations. Plus, Aloners actress Gong Seung Yeon became the Best Newcomer nominees.
This isn’t the end. Director Hong Eui Jeong won two nominations: Best New Director and Best Screenplay with Voice of Silence. Moreover, Cho Sung Hee’s Space Sweepers won three nominations: Best Costume Design, Best Visual Effects, and Best Sound.
Meanwhile, the 15th AFA will be held with the Busan International Film Festival once again. The online event will take place on October 8th.
