School 2021 is on the rocks again.

On Thursday, the news of Kim Young Dae exiting the production of KBS’s School 2021 had hit the wire. As previously announced, Kim was supposed to play Jung Young Joo, a transfer student with secrets.

However, only after a few weeks, Kim’s agency Outer Korea confirmed Kim’s exit from the show. Later in the day, the rumors of Kim starring in the new TV series Shooting Star (literal title) had surfaced. Soon, the agency admitted that the actor is contemplating the offer he received.

But the trouble started when School 2021 production staff denied knowing about Kim’s exit. “Kim Young Dae signed a contract, attended major actors’ meetings, and showed up at the table read. And we were preparing for the first shooting in July, but he abruptly shared his intent to leave the production without any consultation,” they stated. “The production company and KBS have never agreed to his exit, and we are working to reach an amicable agreement.”

This is not the first time School 2021 faced trouble. Originally, School 2021 was supposed to air last year under the title School 2020. However, the production was delayed when controversy had surfaced surrounding the exit of Ahn Seo Hyun, who was cast to play the female lead.

At the time, Ahn’s father claimed that the production company unilaterally demanded her exit from the show. However, the production team responded that the team had received numerous unreasonable demands from Ahn’s father before signing the contract.

Since School 2021 has not that much time left until its premiere, concerns for the production are growing.
