Rappers these days are now ‘Flexing’ in different ways than usual.

While the culture of ‘Flexing’ was usually a way to show off one’s own money and possessions, more rappers in the K-hip hop scene are now doing so in a different way. They have started to ‘Flex’ by making donations.
On Feb 4th, Lee Young Ji posted a donation certificate on Instagram and said she donated a total of 240 million Won (approximately 213.6k USD), including the 140 million won which was from the proceeds of the ‘Don’t Go Out’ phone case. The said donations are said to have been donated to the Community Chest of Korea and the Korean Red Cross.
The rapper stated, “I’m very happy and honored to be able to make my last achievement as a 19-year-old by donating. Thank you for making me feel like a member of society at an immature age. Everything was done by you, so I hope you feel proud. I realized how meaningful and beautiful making donations could be. I am willing to do so again at any time.”
In other news, rapper Nucksal also stated that he will hold an online concert on Feb 10th and donate all proceeds to charities related to overcoming the COVID-19 situation. AOMG’s rapper Simon Dominic also donated 50 million Won (approximately 44.5k USD) to ChildFund Korea, after being angered at the incident of Jung In. Since he has donated, about 150 more donors have donated.
