CL’s Contract Renewal with YG Entertainment ‘In Discussion’

According to Sports Today on November 7th, after debuting under YG Entertainment as a member of 2NE1 back in 2009, CL reportedly parted ways with the label. However, YG stated otherwise, saying that they were currently discussing her contract renewal and nothing had been set yet.

CL has released a number of hits with her group, 2NE1, up until their disbandment in 2016 and has since re-signed with YG Entertainment to continue her career as a solo artist. During the past 3 years, she’s also signed with American label School Boy Records, whose parent company is Universal Music Group.

Though she’s had a few appearances on JTBC‘s ‘MIXNINE’ and tvN‘s ‘Livin’ the Double Life’, she has not been active in a while and fans have been angry with YG Entertainment for her long hiatus.

YG is reportedly running in to several issues trying to renew CL’s contract, because of all the friction with the agency that’s been built up over the past few years between the label and CL. In particular, all the shots that CL took at Yang Hyun Suk last year on social media drew plenty of attention and rumors of her being excluded from the comeback lineup several times surfaced.

For now, according to reports, CL is hoping to leave YG and start fresh at a new agency.
