Netflix has confirmed that the special episode of Kingdom, Kingdom: Ashin of the North will premiere on July 23rd.
The cause of the plague that swallowed up Joseon will finally be revealed. Kingdom: Ashin of the North is about the origins of the resurrection plant, which caused an enormous tragedy that swept Joseon, and a woman named Ashin.
The mysterious resurrection plant and a phrase, which reads “To revive the dead, a price must be paid,” hints at the cause of the plague. The episode will reveal how the epidemic started and how the plant that grows in the north brought Joseon into darkness.
Kim Seong Hun, who led the first season and participated in the second season, directs the special episode. And writer Kim Eun Hee, who wrote both seasons, will again be in charge of the screenplay.
Kim Shi Ah, who impressed many viewers with her polished acting skills in every project, including The House of Us and Miss Baek, will play the young Ashin. Lastly, Gianna Jun, who made viewers want more of the Kingdom franchise by making a fierce appearance as the adult Ashin at the end of Season 2, will continue playing the same role.
Kingdom: Ashin of the North, which will explore the origin of the plague, will premiere on July 23rd worldwide.
