Squid Game creator Hwang Dong Hyuk is returning to the big screen with K.O. CLUB, his first feature film in a decade.
Lee Byung Hun, Oh Jung Se, Park Hae Soo, Cho Yeo Jeong and Kim So Jin have been cast in the near-future thriller.
K.O. CLUB is short for “Killing Oldmen Club” and takes place in a world where even youth can be bought with money. The story centers on the growing conflict between a small group of wealthy and powerful older people who refuse to relinquish their positions and a younger generation left with increasingly few opportunities.
The project marks Hwang’s first film since The Fortress. His feature credits also include Miss Granny and Silenced, but he became a global name with Netflix’s Squid Game, earning the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series and becoming the first director of a non-English-language series to win the category.
K.O. CLUB will also reunite Hwang with several Squid Game stars.
Lee Byung Hun, who played the Front Man in the series, will work with Hwang again after recently appearing in films including No Other Choice and The Match.
Park Hae Soo, who starred as Cho Sang Woo in Squid Game Season 1, also reunites with the filmmaker. His recent credits include Karma and The Price of Confession.
Oh Jung Se joins the ensemble following roles in It’s Okay to Not Be Okay and Wild Sing, while Parasite star Cho Yeo Jeong comes aboard after appearances in My Daughter Is a Zombie and Made in Korea.
Kim So Jin, whose film credits include The Man Standing Next, Escape from Mogadishu and The Drug King, rounds out the principal cast.
K.O. CLUB will be produced by Firstman Studio, the company founded by Hwang and Squid Game producer Kim Ji Yeon. The banner was also behind the global hit Netflix series and is currently producing additional film and television projects.
Production on K.O. CLUB is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027.
