Ha Young was reportedly seen in tears on the set of the upcoming SBS drama The Long Shot Trial amid the ongoing controversy surrounding her great-grandfather, Ahn Sang Ho, and his alleged pro-Japanese activities during Japan’s colonial rule of Korea.
My Daily reported on August 16th that Ha Young was filming the drama on August 13th when she suddenly began crying and was unable to compose herself. The report states that Ha Young took a break for several hours to regain her composure before returning to the set.
The actress recently came under fire after claims about her great-grandfather’s activities during the colonial era resurfaced.
Ha Young previously appeared on KBS2’s Problem Child in House, where she said that her great-grandfather had opened a Western medicine clinic in Hanyang and treated King Gojong. Online users later claimed that her great-grandfather was the doctor Ahn Sang Ho, whose pro-Japanese activities during the colonial period have since come under scrutiny.
Ha Young’s agency initially denied the allegations but later acknowledged that Ahn Sang Ho had engaged in pro-Japanese activities. Ha Young also released a handwritten apology, saying that she deeply acknowledged her great-grandfather’s wrongdoing and apologized as his descendant.
Despite the controversy, Ha Young remains in the lead role of The Long Shot Trial, which is set to premiere next year. The comedy legal mystery follows Kwon Baek, a former lawyer who now works as a paralegal at a law firm. Lee Je Hoon also stars in the series.
There have been no reported changes to Ha Young’s casting. SBS said that a significant portion of the drama had already been filmed and that the network is continuing to monitor the situation.
