Girls’ Generation member Yuri is leaving SM Entertainment after 19 years with the company.
SM Entertainment announced on July 31st, “We have mutually agreed to end our 19-year journey with Kwon Yuri on August 31st after careful discussions.”
The agency added, “It has been a meaningful time to be part of her journey. We sincerely thank Kwon Yuri for her amazing performances and contributions.”
However, Yuri’s activities as a member of Girls’ Generation will continue as usual. SM Entertainment said, “Her activities with Girls’ Generation will remain unchanged although her exclusive contract with us will come to an end. We will continue to support Yuri as she begins a new chapter.”
Yuri joined SM Entertainment as a trainee in 2001 and debuted as a member of Girls’ Generation in 2007 after six years of training. The group became one of K-pop’s biggest acts with hits including “Into the New World”, “Gee” and “Run Devil Run”.
She later expanded her career into acting, appearing in dramas such as Innocent Defendant, Bossam – Steal the Fate and Parole Examiner Lee.
