Netflix’s new series The East Palace has officially set its premiere date for July 17th, along with the release of a date announcement poster.

The East Palace follows Gu Cheon (played by Nam Joo Hyuk), a man with the ability to cross between the real world and the Spirit Realm, and Saeng Gang (Roh Yoon Seo), a palace maid harboring a secret. When the two are summoned by the king (Cho Seung Woo), they begin investigating a curse that has taken hold of the East Palace.

The dark mystery hidden deep within the palace, along with Gu Cheon and Saeng Gang’s chilling partnership as they chase the truth, teases a gripping and eerie story.

The series is directed by Choi Jung Kyu, known for his detailed work on The Devil Judge and Children of Nobody, and written by Kwon So Ra and Seo Jae Won, who built distinctive worlds in projects such as Bulgasal: Immortal Souls and The Guest.

The newly released poster immediately draws attention with Gu Cheon standing at the edge of a pitch-black pond, his body bound in rope. He carries a bundle of peach tree branches on his back, while an ominous red aura creeps toward him. The tagline, “Beyond the boundaries of the Real World, Into the Spirit Realm,” adds to the intrigue surrounding the story.

Nam Joo Hyuk, known for Start-Up, Twenty Five Twenty One and Vigilante, steps into darker territory as Gu Cheon, a man who can cross between the human world and the spirit realm — and cut down the ghosts that stand in his way.

Roh Yoon Seo, who broke out with Netflix’s 20th Century Girl and Crash Course in Romance, takes on the role of Saeng Gang, a palace maid with the eerie ability to hear spirits. Together, Gu Cheon and Saeng Gang follow the trail of a curse eating away at the palace, uncovering secrets as their partnership deepens.

Cho Seung Woo rounds out the cast as the king who summons them to the palace, bringing his signature gravitas to the mystery.

The East Palace premieres July 17th, only on Netflix.
