Gong Seung Yeon appeared on You Quiz on the Block this week amid the breakout success of MBC drama Perfect Crown — but references to the series were notably edited out of the final broadcast following the show’s recent historical accuracy controversy.
During the May 20th episode, Gong Seung Yeon appeared as a guest following the success of Perfect Crown. Reflecting on hitting a career high 15 years after her debut, Gong shared, “I bragged to my mom and younger sister that I was going on ‘You Quiz.'” She added with a laugh, “My sister, Jeongyeon, said even TWICE hasn’t been on the show yet and asked if she could come with me too.”
However, viewers quickly noticed that all mentions of Perfect Crown had been removed from the broadcast.
In previously released preview clips, host Yoo Jae Suk had congratulated Gong on experiencing a career resurgence through the drama, while Gong jokingly said she was “riding the IU and Byeon Woo Seok wave.” Those comments, along with on-screen captions referencing the series, were edited out of the televised episode.
Many viewers speculated the edits were connected to the growing controversy surrounding Perfect Crown, which wrapped its run on May 16th.
The backlash intensified after Episode 11 featured disputed royal attire and terminology during a coronation scene, with critics accusing the drama of historical distortion. As controversy spread online, the production team, writer and lead stars IU and Byeon Woo Seok all released public apologies.
