Rumors claiming that DJ Koo is locked in an inheritance dispute with the family of his late wife, Taiwanese star Barbie Hsu, have been firmly denied by her relatives.
On the 10th, Taiwanese outlets including TVBS reported speculation that Hsu’s mother had hired a lawyer to block Koo from inheriting her estate, with some reports even suggesting legal action on both sides. The family has since dismissed those claims as baseless rumors.
Hsu’s mother directly denied the reports, saying, “I hate lawsuits. They waste money and energy. I call DJ Koo my son. He loves my daughter deeply, respects me, and I love him as well.” She added that there is no conflict between them.
Hsu’s younger sister, Dee Hsu, also spoke out through her manager, condemning the claims as “malicious rumors.” She added, “He gave my sister the purest love and allowed her to experience true happiness. We will forever be grateful to him. He is our family, and we will protect him, not hurt him. Please let the rumors end here.”
Barbie Hsu’s estate is estimated at around 1 billion Taiwanese dollars (approx. 32 million USD). Koo previously stated that all assets were the result of Hsu’s lifelong efforts and said he would relinquish his legal inheritance rights to her mother.
DJ Koo and Barbie Hsu first dated briefly in the late 1990s before parting ways. After Hsu divorced her former husband in 2021, the two reconnected more than 20 years later and married in 2022. Tragedy struck when Hsu passed away suddenly in February during a family trip to Japan after developing pneumonia caused by influenza.
Earlier this month, marking the first anniversary of her death, Koo unveiled a memorial sculpture he personally designed in her honor, drawing renewed attention to their enduring bond.
