News of Kim Soo Hyun’s inappropriate relationship with Kim Sae Ron while she was a minor has been a hot issue for merely a month now. After a groundbreaking conference held by the bereaved family’s attorney earlier today, more proof of their underage relationship has come to light.
On March 27th, at 1:30 PM KST, a press conference was held by Kim Sae Ron’s bereaved family and attorney Boo Ji Suk who revealed messages shared between Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron in 2016.
Boo Ji Suk, representative attorney of Buyou Law Firm, opened the meeting stating, “The reason for today’s press conference is to inform the public of the difficulties the bereaved family are currently enduring and to end the criticism against them. We will not disclose the reason why the late Kim Sae Ron took her own life.” Then Boo began showing the messages while asking, “If this isn’t a dating relationship, then what kind of relationship is this?” prompting people to evaluate and judge if the messages were inappropriate, coercive, pedophilic or not.
Kim Soo Hyun wrote things such as, “When can I fall asleep hugging and holding you? I think I can sleep really well if we do that.” Boo emphasized Kim Soo Hyun was aware what he was doing was inappropriate as other messages suggested he was waiting for her. After seeing the messages, fans felt disgusted over the sexual crimes and acts of grooming evident in the texts.
A thread of their messages was released as well.

I did it so someone from the company would contact me. I’m sorry that I got you involved. The truth is, I’m scared of the people at Gold Medalist. I find them uncomfortable. I can’t seem to get in touch with anyone now that I’ve left the company. I don’t want to be a nuisance to you. I genuinely want you to be happy. I didn’t realize I,t but we dated for 5 to 6 years. You were my first and last love. Because you’re important to me in that way, I don’t want you to avoid me. When I think that you want nothing to do with me, it feels like all the time that we spent together was for nothing. Let’s just stay friends. Nothing more, nothing less. Just two people who cheer each other on. We can do that, right? Do you really hate me? Why? If this letter doesn’t reach you, I’m afraid that it will really be the end for us. It was noted that Kim Sae Ron experienced extreme stress, anxiety, and had multiple suicide attempts due to her large debt owed to Gold Medalist, Kim Soo Hyun’s entertainment agency, and her DUI scandal. YouTube channel HoverLab then revealed more detailed information about Kim Sae Ron’s hardships and personal messages today at 7:30pm KST. After the late ASTRO’s Moonbin had taken his life, Kim Sae Ron wrote a letter addressed to the late star reflecting on how she should take her own life as well. “Moonbin, I miss you. What should I say? I was also thinking about ending my life, and then I heard the news about you. I can only imagine how terrifying that decision must have been. I’m struggling every moment, wondering if I should follow you. If you’re feeling lonely, please appear in my dreams.”
In another message shared between friends, Kim Sae Ron expressed her desire to die – in part due to the stressful debt she owed Gold Medalist. Kim Sae Ron stated, “My former agency told me to pay back 700 million KRW. They’re basically telling me to just kill myself. The contract was supposed to be 70:30, and they were supposed to pay 30% of the penalty, but they tricked me into paying 100%.” Her friend responded, “Kim Soo Hyun dated you for six years. He could at least help out. It’s not 7 million won, it’s 700 million won. This is something no human should do. Stay strong, Sae Ron.” Through these messages, their inappropriate relationship could be confirmed and accusations of Kim Sae Ron posting photos with Kim Soo Hyun online for attention and being unfairly labled as “Crazy” were dismissed.

Claims that Kim Sae Ron’s family were neglecting her and that her aunt was also a fake and the messages were forged were also laid to rest after messages shared between Kim Sae Ron and her mother, as well as family chats, were revealed and showed them to be loving, supportive, and actively caring for Kim Sae Ron during her troubling period. Despite her troubles, Kim Soo Hyun did not reach out to Kim Sae Ron and even on the day of her death he was seen posting photos to celebrate his birthday and appearance on Good Day, which sparked criticism for his lack of remorse.
As hostility continues to grow, more and more incriminating evidence has become available, especially through YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute. From Kim Soo Hyun appearing half-naked in Kim Sae Ron’s kitchen, to private selfies and dates together, the situation is getting messier and has become more of a mud-slinging battle between both parties. A video was released on Twitter that revealed Kim Soo Hyun filmed a mannequin dressed in erotic underwear in Paris and sent it to Kim Sae Ron. Remarks comparing and stating “I don’t like the ratio of Korean women who don’t have a beautiful Western woman’s body” could be heard. Garosero stated that the video was inappropriate to send to a minor.
