SBS has unveiled the first striking images of Yook Sung Jae’s transformation into a serpent deity for the upcoming fantasy romance The Haunted Palace, showcasing the actor’s metamorphosis that has fans buzzing.
Set to premiere following Buried Hearts, the new SBS weekend drama follows a female shaman named Yeo Ri who rejects her fate as a medium, and her entanglement with Kang Cheol Yi, an ancient serpent spirit trapped in the body of her first love, Yoon Gap. Together, they confront vengeful spirits harboring ancient grudges against the royal family in what’s being billed as a “body-snatching fantasy romance.”
The highly anticipated series brings together director Yoon Sung Sik, known for hit dramas Mr. Queen and Bridal Mask, and writer Yoon Su Jung of The King’s Face and Cheer Up! The cast features Yook Sung Jae in a challenging dual role alongside Bora as Yeo Ri and Kim Ji Hoon as Lee Jung.

Yook Sung Jae will portray both the kind-hearted royal document keeper Yoon Gap and the mischievous serpent deity Kang Cheol Yi who possesses him. The newly released stills highlight Yook’s transformation, showing scales emerging from the nape of his neck.
The production team promises Yook will deliver a captivating performance spanning from overwhelming charisma to bizarre and eccentric behaviors, perfectly embodying the thousand-year-old serpent deity’s complex charm.
The Haunted Palace will begin airing in April on SBS’s weekend primetime slot.
