Netflix has greenlit Materesa (working title), a new mystery thriller starring Nana, Kim Dan and Jung Gun Joo.
The series follows Materesa, a cold and calculating criminal psychologist and professor who is called in to consult on a string of high-profile unsolved murders. As she digs deeper into the cases with the help of her assistant Park Seol and longtime friend, prosecutor Yoo Aram, she begins uncovering long-buried truths — while unexpected emotions complicate the investigation.
Nana stars as Materesa, who carries trauma from her past and personally confronts and interrogates criminals as she searches for clues. The actress previously appeared in Netflix’s Mask Girl and Glitch, as well as the films Omniscient Reader and The Swindlers.
Kim Dan plays Park Seol, Materesa’s assistant, whose innocent smile hides secrets of his own. Having worked alongside Materesa for years, Seol craves her attention and helps with the investigations, while keeping his deeper emotions tightly suppressed.
Jung Gun Joo stars as Yoo Aram, a prosecutor and Materesa’s longtime friend who assists with the cases but grows wary of Seol and his constant presence around her. Jung’s recent credits include Netflix’s Mercy for None, Way Back Love and the film Rebound.
As Materesa moves closer to the truth behind the murders she has pursued for years, the dynamic among the three characters grows increasingly charged, blending crime-thriller tension with a more volatile emotional triangle.
Materesa is directed by Jang Young Woo, whose credits include Queen of Tears and Bulgasal: Immortal Souls. Kwon So Ra and Seo Jae Won, the writers behind projects including Netflix’s The East Palace and The Guest, penned the series.
Materesa will stream exclusively on Netflix.
