Choi Min Sik and Han So Hee recently opened up about working together for the first time.
A press conference for The Intern was held on the morning of August 24th at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Seoul. Choi Min Sik, Han So Hee and director Kim Do Yeoung attended the event.
Looking back on his reaction to the casting, Choi Min Sik said, “When I asked who was joining the project, they told me Han So Hee. I thought, ‘Han So Hee?’ I wondered if I would ever get the chance to share a scene with an actress like her. I told myself I had to stay sharp and work hard.”
Han So Hee also described the opportunity as one she may never get again.
“It honestly felt like an opportunity that might never come again in my life,” she said. “I thought, ‘Is that really the Choi Min Sik I know?’ I felt like I had to jump at the opportunity without hesitation and give it my all.”
Choi Min Sik went on to praise his co-star, saying he was especially motivated to bring his best to the project.
“I’ve mostly worked with male actors throughout my career,” he said. “Having such a beautiful actress as my co-star made me feel like I really had to step up my game.”
He also praised Han So Hee for her dedication to the project. “This was my first time working with Han So Hee, and as you’ll see in the movie, her attitude toward the project, her passion for the role, and what she delivered all exceeded my expectations,” he said. “I was very impressed. There were moments when she surprised me, and I felt proud of her.”
The Intern is a Korean remake of the 2015 Hollywood film starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. The Korean remake film follows an unlikely workplace partnership between Gi Ho (played by Choi Min Sik), an intern with 37 years of work experience, and Sun Woo (Han So Hee), a young fashion industry CEO who has quickly risen to success just three years after launching her company.
The film is set to hit Korean theaters on September 16th.
