Netflix has confirmed production on the new historical action film Dochabi (working title), starring Kim Do Hoon, Jeon Jong Seo, Lee Joon Gi, Lee Sang Yi and Bae In Hyuk.
Set in a remote border region where slash-and-burn farmers have formed a settlement, the film follows Taesan, a former military officer living in hiding deep in the mountains with a Jurchen woman named Ahai. After becoming caught up in a mysterious conspiracy and falsely branded the leader of a barbarian group, Taesan fights back against Lee Dogwan, who hunts the villagers alongside masked assailants.
As he survives like a monster and fights like a ghost, Taesan eventually becomes known as “Dochabi,” an old Korean word meaning “goblin.”
Kim Do Hoon, known for Moving, Your Honor, and Dear X, will play Taesan, bringing together the emotional and action skills he has built across his recent roles.
Jeon Jong Seo stars as Ahai, a highly skilled fighter known for her speed and martial arts ability who fights alongside Taesan. The actress has built a strong presence in genre projects including Netflix’s Ballerina and The Call, as well as Project Y.
Lee Joon Gi takes on the role of Lee Dogwan, the highest-ranking military commander in the border region and a man driven by a deep hunger for power. Known for both period and contemporary dramas including Arthdal Chronicles: The Sword of Aramun, Flower of Evil and Lawless Lawyer, Lee is set to showcase his signature charisma and action skills in the role.
Lee Sang Yi will play Park Seryong, a royal inspector sent north after reports emerge of mysterious masked figures appearing in the region. Suspicious of Lee Dogwan, Park’s investigation is expected to heighten the tension.
Bae In Hyuk rounds out the main cast as Crown Prince Yeolhwa, who feels a strong sense of responsibility and compassion toward the villagers suffering amid conflict with outside forces.
Dochabi marks the latest film from director An Tae Jin, whose debut feature The Night Owl won multiple awards. The screenplay is written by Hwang Seong Gu, whose credits include The King’s Warden and Little Forest, while Onda Works serves as the production company.
Dochabi will be released exclusively on Netflix.
