BLACKPINK’s Jisoo has spoken out after her tears at the group’s 10th anniversary event sparked speculation about the group’s future.
BLACKPINK held its 10th anniversary fan meeting, Meet & Greet, at the National Museum of Korea in Seoul’s Yongsan District on August 8th. Jennie, Jisoo, Rosé and Lisa all attended the full-group event, though some fans had already expressed disappointment over the gathering being announced just two days in advance and what they felt was a lack of communication.
After the event, Jisoo was seen tearing up while greeting fans on her way home. Because she is known for rarely crying in public, the moment quickly fueled speculation online, with some wondering whether she was anticipating “the end” or whether it hinted at a possible disbandment or difficulties with future group activities.
As the speculation grew, Jisoo addressed the situation directly in a lengthy message to fans on August 9th.
“A lot of people seemed surprised that I cried yesterday. Turns out I’m human too. Who knew I wasn’t a robot?” she joked, before adding, “I hope people don’t attach too many meanings to my tears. I just want to sum them up as the emotion of realizing that we’ve spent 10 years together.”
She also explained why the members had been careful with their words during the event.
“It was hard for all of us to speak freely because there was such a fine line between what we wanted to say, what we could say, what we were allowed to say and what didn’t necessarily need to be said,” she wrote. “But I did want to say that all four of us love and cherish one another, and our fans, very, very much.”
Jisoo also pushed back against the idea that her tears meant she was the member who was most upset.
“Just because I cried in front of people for the first time, does that mean I was the one who cared the most or was the most hurt? I don’t think so,” she said. “Just like not crying during a tour doesn’t mean you weren’t moved, everyone simply has their own way of expressing things.”
She again apologized to fans over the communication issues surrounding the event and asked that the group’s milestone not be overshadowed by further speculation.
“I know us not talking has led to misunderstandings and hurt feelings, but I hope there won’t be any more negative talk or endless speculation surrounding a 10th anniversary that we should all be celebrating together,” she wrote.

BLACKPINK debuted on August 8th, 2016, and marked its 10th anniversary this year. While the four members are now signed to different agencies for their individual careers, they continue to promote together as BLACKPINK.
