Wang Xiaofei is addressing the growing controversy over late Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu’s estate.
After Hsu’s mother claimed she had not received any inheritance from her daughter, Wang, Hsu’s ex-husband, issued a statement through his lawyer.
According to Taiwanese media outlets on July 8, a report claimed Wang has been paying the mortgage on Hsu’s former Taipei home, while her current husband, DJ Koo, has no intention of inheriting the property.
Hsu’s mother also drew attention after saying she had not received any part of her daughter’s estate, adding, “I may be forced out of the home I bought with the money I worked so hard to earn.”
In response, Wang released a five-point statement.
His lawyer said Wang has asked the court to appoint a special representative for his two minor children to protect their rights. A court-appointed attorney is now handling the legal process for dividing Hsu’s estate.
According to the statement, two-thirds of Hsu’s estate legally goes to her two minor children, with Wang managing those assets through a dedicated trust account. DJ Koo’s legal one-third share will be handled according to Koo’s wishes, and Wang said he respects that.
Wang’s side also said he has continued helping pay the mortgage that would otherwise fall to the two children, and denied reports that the property could go to auction.
As for Hsu’s mother’s claim that she may be forced out, Wang’s side said he supports her staying in the home and added, “We have never asked her to move out.”
Wang also urged the public to stop speculating, saying false reports and rumors are hurting the family.
He said all future decisions regarding Hsu’s estate, asset management and the children’s living arrangements will put the two minors first.
Barbie Hsu died in February last year from acute pneumonia caused by the flu while traveling in Japan with her family. She was 48.
