Ji Soo’s former agency, KEYEAST, has been ordered by South Korea’s Supreme Court to pay 880 million won ($640,000) in damages to the production company behind the drama River Where the Moon Rises. The ruling stems from Jisoo’s mid-series departure following school bullying allegations.
On July 6, it was confirmed that KEYEAST had withdrawn its appeal on June 24 from the Supreme Court’s Third Division. This effectively finalized the lower court’s ruling in favor of CANVAS N, the drama’s production company.
The dispute dates back to March 2021, when online allegations of school bullying surfaced against Ji Soo. He partially admitted to the claims and subsequently stepped down from his role in the KBS2 drama.
By that point, 18 of the show’s 20 episodes had already been filmed, and six had aired. The production team replaced him with actor Na In Woo and reshot a large portion of the series.
Canvas N later filed a lawsuit seeking around 3 billion won ($2 million) in damages, citing losses from reshoots, including cast fees, staff wages, location and equipment costs and production expenses.
The first trial ordered KEYEAST to pay 1.42 billion won ($920,000), but the appeals court reduced the amount to 880 million won ($640,000) after reassessing some of the damages. The Supreme Court has now finalized that reduced amount after rejecting further appeals.
