Hwang Jung Min and Jang Dong Gun are both turning heads for their changed appearances, but for very different reasons.
Hwang is earning praise for his fresh, brighter look after giving up alcohol, while Jang has sparked buzz over a noticeably fuller, tighter-looking face.
Hwang recently became a hot topic while promoting the film Hope. In a July 1 interview video released by Elle Korea, featuring Hwang, Zo In Sung and Jung Ho Yeon, viewers quickly zeroed in on Hwang’s transformed look.
Dressed in all black with his bangs casually swept forward, the 55-year-old actor showed off a sharper jawline, a leaner frame and a much clearer complexion. Hwang had long been known for his reddish skin tone, often nicknamed “alcohol-tone,” a Korean slang term for the flushed look associated with drinking. But in the new video, he looked noticeably brighter and more polished, prompting fans to say he was entering his new “prime days.”
Hwang previously revealed he had quit drinking for his health. He later laughed off the attention during a July 4 appearance on the YouTube show Pinggyego, joking, “I had a ton of makeup on. It was basically special-effects makeup.”
Jang Dong Gun, meanwhile, surprised fans with a rare public appearance at a brand party captured in a video shared by Dazed Korea.
The actor attended the event with his wife, Go So Young, and was seen greeting guests with a microphone in hand. But viewers were quick to notice his appearance, especially his flushed cheeks and unusually smooth, taut-looking face.
While Jang’s signature good looks were still there, the change sparked debate online, with some saying his face looked less natural than usual. The buzz only grew because the look appeared different from a photo shared on June 12 by dancer Poppin Hyunjoon, taken at his child’s middle school graduation.
Lighting, angles or editing may have played a role, but Jang’s noticeably changed appearance has still become one of the week’s biggest celebrity talking points.
