Rumors are circulating about a possible November broadcast of tvN’s The Second Signal following Cho Jin Woong’s retirement from the entertainment industry.
On the 30th, tvN reiterated its previous stance to Xports News, saying, “Nothing has been confirmed yet” regarding both the broadcast schedule of The Second Signal and whether Cho Jin Woong’s scenes would be aired without edits.
Earlier that day, Mydaily reported that The Second Signal had been scheduled to air on November 30 as an 8-episode Monday–Tuesday drama, and that the production team had decided not to edit out Cho Jin Woong’s scenes. However, tvN quickly clarified again, saying, “Nothing has been confirmed,” maintaining a cautious position.
The Second Signal was produced to commemorate tvN’s 20th anniversary and the 10th anniversary of Signal and tells the story following Season 1. Filming wrapped in August last year, and it was originally scheduled to air in June this year. However, the broadcast was postponed indefinitely after past controversy involving Cho Jin Woong resurfaced last year.
As the scheduling rumors spread, public opinion online has been sharply divided.
Some netizens opposed the broadcast, saying, “I don’t want to watch it,” “Even if he were playing a villain, it would still be hard to get into it, but it’s even more difficult when he plays a righteous police officer,” “How can viewers get into it when he plays a pure and justice-driven police officer?” and “What about the victims?”
On the other hand, those in favor of airing the drama argued that the production team and cast should also be considered.
They commented, “I understand the concerns, but the production cost is in the tens of billions of won, so the production company’s perspective should also be considered,” “People who want to watch it can just watch it,” and “It should be aired for the sake of the actors and staff who worked on it, not just the fans. It’s also important that other people don’t suffer damage because of Cho Jin Woong.”
Attention is now focused on whether The Second Signal will actually meet viewers in November.
