Suga has reportedly been identified as an early investor in the U.S. aerospace company SpaceX, drawing attention for his sharp eye beyond music.
According to an exclusive report by Edaily on June 26th, the BTS star is said to have invested through Link Asset Partners, the first domestic institution in Korea to invest in SpaceX.
“Suga was an early investor in SpaceX before it went public,” an investment banking industry source said. “The exact size of his investment has not been confirmed, but I understand he still holds SpaceX shares and has seen an overwhelming rate of return.”
SpaceX, which was valued at about $46 billion in 2020, saw its valuation rise to around $100 billion after a funding round in 2021. The company, which listed on the New York Stock Exchange on June 12th, priced its IPO at $135 per share, bringing its market capitalization to about $1.77 trillion.
As Suga is believed to have invested in SpaceX before 2022, his return is estimated to be around 20 times his original investment, even by conservative estimates. If he invested around 2020, his return could be as high as 40 times.
A HYBE representative responded cautiously, saying, “It is difficult to confirm matters related to the artist’s personal affairs.”
Suga, who has built a strong reputation as a producer by writing, composing and producing many of BTS’ biggest songs, is also known for his investment sense. He previously invested in the Athletics, formerly the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball, drawing attention at the time as another investment in a high-growth private asset.
Meanwhile, SpaceX remains one of the most closely watched names in the global investment market. On its first day of trading, its share price climbed as high as $225.64 during the session. Although the stock has recently lost some momentum, it remains above its IPO price. On June 26th, Korea time, it closed at $153.23, up 13.5% from its offering price.
