A major new fantasy rom-com is bringing together one of the most buzzworthy casts yet.
JTBC’s upcoming series Human X Gumiho (literal title) has confirmed its lineup, led by Jun Ji Hyun and Ji Chang Wook, alongside Cha Joo Young, Kang You Seok, Kim Jong Soo and Kim Min Seok.
The series follows a mysterious, fateful encounter between a seductive, supernatural being who charms humans and a man who draws in otherworldly creatures. The project comes from Strong Girl Nam-soon director Kim Jeong Sik and The Beauty Inside writer Im Maeari.
Jun Ji Hyun takes on the role of Goo Ja Hong, a top actress with stunning visuals and an even more dangerous secret: she’s a 2,000-year-old gumiho. Known for effortlessly captivating people and stirring up major scandals, her character meets an unexpected match in a man completely immune to her powers.
That man is Choi Seok, played by Ji Chang Wook—a shaman and museum director who appears easygoing on the surface but possesses a rare ability to sense the unseen. As he becomes intrigued by the gumiho who invades his world, he finds himself facing unexpected changes.
“With such an incredible director, writer, staff and cast all coming together, we’re all putting our hearts into this project to bring something great to viewers,” Jun Ji Hyun said.
“It’s not just about the chemistry between a human and a gumiho,” Ji Chang Wook shared. “The dynamic between all the characters really stands out. The script keeps you wanting to know what happens next, and the story between Seok and Ja Hong is especially compelling.”
Cha Joo Young plays Ji Woo Kyung, CEO of an entertainment company and the only person who knows Goo Ja Hong’s true identity, while Kang You Seok stars as Go Tae Seung, Choi Seok’s longtime friend and trusted colleague.
Kim Jong Soo appears as Man Gwan, Choi Seok’s grandfather, and Kim Min Seok plays Beom, a 500-year-old tiger spirit who ends up living under the same roof as Choi Seok and Go Tae Seung.
The series also features a strong lineup of special appearances. Hwang In Youp takes on the role of Sam Yi, a three-headed dog and natural enemy of the gumiho, while Seolhyun and Lee Jae In play mystical beings who orbit the central story.
“I’m honored to be part of such an incredible project alongside actors I respect,” Hwang In Youp shared. “I’ll be able to show a new side of myself through this villain character.”
Seolhyun added, “I’m excited and grateful to join this project. I’ll do my best to bring sincerity to the role.”
Human X Gumiho is set to premiere on JTBC in the first half of 2027 and will also be released globally on Amazon Prime Video.
