Park Bo Young is stepping into unfamiliar territory with Gold Land—and showing a side of herself audiences have never seen before.

The Disney Plus original series teases a striking transformation for the actress, who takes on her first crime genre role as a woman consumed by greed after coming into possession of gold bars worth 150 billion KRW (approx. 100 million USD).

Gold Land follows Hee Joo (Park Bo Young), a customs officer who unexpectedly gets her hands on the massive stash tied to a smuggling ring. As she’s pulled into a dangerous web of betrayal and survival, she becomes increasingly determined to claim the gold for herself.

Newly released stills show Kim Hee Joo staring at her reflection, as if bracing herself for a life-altering decision, hinting at her gradual shift between survival and desire. Park Bo Young also underwent weight loss to more convincingly portray her character’s physical and emotional descent.

Speaking about the role, Park Bo Young said, “Kim Hee Joo is a very decisive character who goes through constant change. I’ve often played characters who endure with a smile, but this time I wanted to show someone dry and worn down, someone just trying to survive.”

She added, “I realized I was slowly becoming more like Hee Joo,” and teased her commitment to the role, saying, “I tried everything intense that I could.”

Director Kim Sung Hoon explained his casting choice, saying, “I wanted to show how ordinary desire can grow through someone who seems far removed from greed, like Park Bo Young.” He added, “Through her, you’ll experience how everyday life can turn into a crime genre.”

Gold Land will premiere on Disney+ on April 29th, with its first two episodes, followed by two new episodes released weekly for a total of 10 episodes.
