Gong Yoo proved his global star power in Florence, Italy, where fans turned out in overwhelming numbers for his masterclass event—selling it out in just three minutes and lining up before sunrise to get in.
According to reports, Gong Yoo’s masterclass, held March 21st at Cinema La Compagnia, sold out immediately after tickets went on sale. His hit film Train to Busan also sold out ahead of the festival’s opening, highlighting the growing demand for Korean content.
On the day of the event, fans began gathering as early as 6:30 AM (local time), with some waiting hours in line for a chance to sit in the front row. In a rare scene, attendees even wrote queue numbers on their hands as they waited for entry.

Organizers of the Florence Korea Film Fest said they were caught off guard by the turnout. Co-director Jang Eun Young shared, “This is our 24th year, and we’ve never seen anything like this. It’s overwhelming.”
Fans of all ages filled the venue, some holding handmade signs in Korean reading “I love you” and bringing custom fan goods. Even those without tickets stayed nearby, hoping to catch a glimpse of the actor.
Gong Yoo, visibly touched by the packed crowd, said, “I didn’t realize I was receiving this much attention in Italy. It makes me want to come back more often,” drawing loud applause.

During the event, he spoke with the audience for over an hour, reflecting on his work and the themes behind projects like Silenced, Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982, and Squid Game, as well as their production processes.
The City of Florence also honored Gong Yoo with a cultural contribution award in recognition of his impact.
