New stories of Barbie Hsu‘s compassion are emerging following the Taiwanese actress’s sudden passing in February.
A Singaporean outlet recently reported that several single mothers—whom Barbie Hsu had quietly helped during her lifetime—have stepped forward to share their stories, mourning her death and revealing her hidden acts of generosity for the first time.
According to the outlet, one single mother struggling to pay for her 7-year-old son’s monthly seizure treatments—which cost 2,000 yuan ($280) each month—reached out to several public figures for help. “Out of all the people I messaged, Barbie Hsu was the only one who replied,” she said, describing how she had been carrying the burden alone.
She wasn’t the only one. Another single mother, whose daughter was battling leukemia, said she too received unexpected support from Hsu. “After hearing about our situation, she quietly sent 300,000 yuan ($42,000) and told me, ‘If it’s not enough, tell me again.’ Because of her, my child got a second chance at life. I couldn’t believe a celebrity like her existed.”
The stories have sparked widespread emotion online. Known for her warm, bright personality, Hsu had long been beloved—but many are now seeing just how much she helped behind the scenes. Taiwanese netizens wrote, “The warmest person left us too soon,” and, “She was truly an angel without wings.”
