The 2025 MAMA Awards may be forced to adjust their plans after a deadly high-rise fire in Hong Kong prompted organizers to hold urgent internal discussions.

According to industry sources on November 27th, the MAMA production team began emergency meetings the previous day in response to the large-scale apartment fire that broke out in Hong Kong on the 26th (local time). With dozens of confirmed casualties so far, producers are reportedly weighing a range of opinions regarding whether the ceremony can proceed as planned.

There is also concern about the venue’s proximity to the disaster site. This year’s MAMA Awards are scheduled to be held on the 28th and 29th at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Stadium—located just 20 kilometers from the affected area.

When asked about reports of emergency deliberations, a representative for the MAMA Awards stated only that they are “checking” the situation, offering a cautious stance.

The fire, which erupted at a residential complex in Tai Po District in northern Hong Kong, has so far resulted in 44 confirmed deaths, with 45 individuals in critical condition and 279 people believed to be missing inside the building. Of the seven high-rise towers that caught fire, four were extinguished after ten hours, while the remaining three continued to burn more than sixteen hours after the blaze began.

Hong Kong authorities have since raised the fire alert to Level 5, the highest tier—marking the first time in 17 years since the 2008 Cornwall Court fire that such a rating has been issued.

The MAMA Awards team is expected to continue monitoring the situation closely as they assess the feasibility of holding the event as scheduled.
