IU and Byeon Woo Seok’s The 21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife has officially set its premiere window for the first half of 2026.
This romance challenges destiny and social status in an alternate 21st-century Korea where a constitutional monarchy still exists. The story follows the relationship between a brilliant heiress frustrated by her commoner status and a prince who is burdened by his royal title.
The show is helmed by Park Joon Hwa, the acclaimed director behind hits like What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim.
IU stars as Seong Hee Ju, a young executive who seems to have it all—outstanding looks, a brilliant mind, and a competitive spirit. However, she is frustrated by the social limitations of her “commoner” status. To overcome this, she chooses to enter into a contractual marriage.
Byeon Woo Seok plays Yi Wan (Grand Prince Yi An), a man saddened by his inability to possess anything of his own beyond his royal title. As the king’s second son, he is forced to live in the shadows, concealing his true, fervent heart.
The drama follows these two characters, who have made very different choices in life despite their similar frustrations. They confront new sides of themselves and experience extraordinary emotions through each other.
The 21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife is scheduled to release on Disney Plus in the first half of 2026.
