Lee Si Young has announced the birth of her second child, a baby conceived by implanting a frozen embryo created during her previous marriage.
The actress posted a photo to her social media holding her newborn on November 5th, with a caption promising to make her first son, Jeong Yoon, and the new baby “happy for life.” She also shared another photo of the baby holding a finger, captioning it, “Hello, angel.”

The birth brings renewed attention to the child’s controversial conception, which Lee Si Young first revealed in July. She shocked the public at that time by confessing that she had independently chosen to implant a frozen embryo after her divorce, and that she had not received her ex-husband’s consent for the procedure.
The situation highlights a legal and ethical gray area in South Korea. While the law requires written consent from both parties to create an embryo, there are no specific laws or penalties regarding consent for implanting an embryo after a divorce.
Following her pregnancy announcement, Lee Si Young’s ex-husband stated in a media interview that although he had initially opposed the pregnancy, he would “do his best” now that the baby is on the way. The unique situation has raised legal concerns, as he is the child’s biological father but may not be recognized as the “legal father,” which could lead to future complications regarding property and family law.
