The upcoming comedy The First Ride has soared to the top of Korea’s overall box office pre-sale rankings ahead of its October 29th release, signaling a strong opening weekend. Alongside the announcement, the production also dropped a new “review trailer” packed with laughter and praise from audiences and critics alike.
The First Ride follows five lifelong friends—each with wildly different personalities—who embark on their first overseas trip together. There’s Tae Jung (Kang Ha Neul), the one who always goes to extremes; Do Jin (Kim Young Kwang), the cheerful optimist; Yeon Min (Cha Eun Woo), the handsome one; Geum Bok (Kang Yeong Seok), the one who sleeps with his eyes open; and Ok Sim (Han Sun Hwa), the lovely one.
The newly released trailer teases explosive chemistry and laugh-out-loud moments, featuring clips of the group’s ridiculous antics alongside genuine audience reactions. Early viewers have raved about the film’s energy, calling it “a comedy charged with madness,” “so funny it’s enlightening,” and “a riotous, laugh-till-you-cry ride,” proving that The First Ride delivers a unique comedic punch.
The First Ride showcases the dynamic collaboration of some of Korea’s most popular young stars—Kang Ha Neul, Kim Young Kwang, Cha Eun Woo, Kang Young Seok, and Han Sun Hwa. The film is directed by Nam Dae Joong, best known for Love Reset, whose distinct comedic flair promises another crowd-pleasing hit.
Currently, the Korean box office has been dominated by Japanese films and animation, with Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc and The Exit 8 occupying the top two spots. All eyes are now on whether The First Ride can break the Japanese streak and revive the domestic comedy wave.
Touted as this fall’s “No. 1 pick” among both audiences and critics, The First Ride opens nationwide in theaters tomorrow.
