Park Yoo Chun, who has resumed his entertainment career in Japan after reversing his retirement, is once again in legal trouble—this time for refusing to comply with a 500 million KRW (approx. 351,000 USD) damages ruling handed down by a South Korean court.

According to reports, the Seoul High Court on September 25th upheld a prior ruling ordering Park and his former agency Recielo to jointly compensate management company Loud Fun Together for violating an exclusive contract. The court found that Park continued his entertainment activities through another management firm without the agency’s prior consent, thereby breaching both his contract and an injunction.

On October 16th, Park’s legal team confirmed that he had filed an appeal with the Supreme Court, rejecting the decision and insisting he could not accept the ruling.

The case dates back to 2020, when Loud Fun Together was granted exclusive management rights for Park Yoo Chun until 2024 under a delegation agreement with Recielo. However, in May 2021, Park demanded to terminate his contract. When his request went unanswered, he unilaterally declared the contract void and began working with another company, operated by an acquaintance, to continue his performances and promotions.

In August 2021, Loud Fun Together filed for a court injunction to bar Park from appearing on broadcasts or performing publicly, which was granted. Despite this, Park went on to hold concerts and appear in advertisements, leading to the current damages lawsuit.

Park Yoo Chun, once a leading K-pop star, has faced a string of controversies in recent years, including a 2019 press conference where he falsely denied methamphetamine use, multiple legal disputes with former management, and unpaid taxes.

In 2023, he was listed among the National Tax Service’s roster of major delinquent taxpayers, which includes individuals who have failed to pay over 200 million KRW (approx. 141,000 USD) in taxes for more than a year. Park reportedly owes 409 million KRW in back taxes, stemming from five separate cases, including capital gains taxes from 2016.
