Kang Ha Neul shared a funny behind-the-scenes story from the set of Netflix’s Squid Game, laughing off rumors that he was ever “ostracized” during filming.
Appearing on the October 15th episode of MBC’s Radio Star, the actor joined Kim Young Kwang, Kang Yeong Seok, and Kang Ji Young for a lighthearted conversation. Host Kim Kook Jin teased, “You’re the nicest guy in showbiz, but I heard you were ostracized during ‘Squid Game.’” Kang immediately crossed his arms in an X and laughed, firmly denying the story.
He explained that he was shooting two projects at once—Squid Game 3 and the film Yadang: The Snitch. “I’d film ‘Yadang’ overnight, then I’d head straight to the ‘Squid Game’ set in Daejeon,” he said. “That day, I wasn’t sure if I’d appear in the scene, but they told me to stay just in case. So I laid down on one of the many beds on set and fell asleep.”
Since the Squid Game set was strictly off-limits to managers and outsiders, only actors and staff were inside. “When I woke up, I thought something was seriously wrong with my vision,” Kang recalled, laughing. “I couldn’t see anything—it was pitch black! Turns out it was lunchtime, and everyone had turned off the lights and gone out. I was terrified for a second.”
MC Kim Kook Jin jokingly responded, “Sounds like you really were ostracized,” prompting laughter.
